Frances is a beautiful petite Calico. She's a playful, feisty, endlessly curious, sweet companion. She gets along with other cats and really likes dogs. She is up-to-date on her vaccinations and has been spayed. She came into the shelter in the beginning of 2010 weighing less than a pound and has been in foster care ever since. Early on it was determined that she was born with Eyelid Agenesis, meaning she only has partial eyelids in both eyes. While hardly noticeable, the danger is that without an eyelid fur can touch her cornea and cause irritation and/or scarring. She has been to the eye vet regularly as she's matured. She is managing the problem well and no intervention is needed at this time. She receives eye ointment every night. She needs an owner who will be committed to monitoring her eye health and paying for any needed therapy. Maybe she will never need cryotherapy or surgery, just regular visits to the eye vet. Frances is so cute, so entertaining, has such personality I am hoping that someone out there will see she is worth the (financial) risk. She is being fostered in Sacramento, CA. Jakjak is an orange stripe cat who has scoliosis. The veterinarian also said that his brain had not fully formed when he was a kitten, well, he still is a kitten he is a year old. he has to have his dry food and water mixed together when he eats so he gets his daily water intake because he cannot comprehend drinking out of a bowl, he also gets "lost" he will walk up to a wall or cabinet and claw at it. and until you go to him and get him away from the wall he's confused. also he will go around in circles for no reason at all and has to be "reset" which means i just pick him up and put him back down and it seems to stop the circling. He is the sweetest cat in the world and has a continuous purr! jak gets along well with other cats and dogs. and is feline luke neg. non nueter as i can't afford. jak is kept in my big bathroom all the time. He doesn't mind at all as it is a space that he can find his litter box in. also so he doesn't get my other cats pregnant
The other cat Kim has the same thing, brain has not fully formed. she does the circling and needs to be"reset" she also gets "lost" too. I have to do her food and water the same way so that she gets her water intake daily. She is more stand offish. if you pick her up she may hiss at you. She will get along with other cats and chases them as if to play but my other cats don't know she wants to play and they end up fighting with her. She is a real sweet cat and she is about a year and a half old. she is feline luke neg. non spay as i can't afford. She runs the house and is litter box trained.

SHADOW
Rescued from a hoarding situation, Shadow is currently being cared for at the Burbank Animal Shelter. Initially he appeared to be totally blind, but we believe he has very minimal sight in his one good eye. As you can imagine, life at the shelter is hard for him. He is in an unknown environment with unknown smells and noises. Understandably he gets a little frightened when first approached but once in your arms will relax and start to feel safe. He will be fine living with other cats as long as they are not aggressive. A quiet adult only home would be best for Shadow.
For more information or to meet him please contact Anne Macleod 818-469-3937 or cal-mac@pacbell.net .

Luna almost lost her life on December 12th. 2009. She somehow ended up in a car engine. She got out alive but endured severs damages to her right hint leg as well as to her brain. First we thought that Luna couldn't be saved but she is a very strong little girl and pulled trough all the pain and surgery. We had to amputate her leg. She adjusted very well to 3 legs but somehow her brain is not always functioning right. Without any visible signs she starts hissing now and then. We don't know what this kitten is 'seeing' but it scares her. And she is on Phenobarbital since a while and that helps with her seizures. Other then that Luna is a very happy, playful and funny little girl. She has no problems with other cats or using the litter box. She is born app. 11/1/2009, is utd on her vaccinations, spayed and tested negative for FeLV/FIV. We're looking for the perfect home that can deal with her disability. Please contact the foster mom Barbara @ (337) 781-2362 or e-mail bb70555@yahoo.com for more information.

Maury is an 8-month old feline who has beaten the odds. He was brought to our animal clinic in Brooklyn, NY when he was just a few weeks old. He was tiny and holding onto life, rescued by Good Samaritans after being severely injured by a hit-and-run driver. His chances at survival were slim, but Maury pulled through with flying colors. He is a delight to have around the hospital, a playful, affectionate kitten that puts a smile on everyone’s face with his joyful demeanor and vivacious personality. But, we are now seeking a permanent place for Maury to call home.
The accident that he suffered as a baby has left Maury incontinent, with no control over his urine or bowels, but his recovery has been exceptional. He runs, jumps, plays, and nothing slows him down. Nevertheless, Maury does require daily monitoring and care. He needs his bladder manually expressed twice a day. However, the love and pleasure that Maury gives to his caretakers in return is enough to make anyone fall in love with this little boy. Everyone who meets Maury is instantly drawn to his feisty, fun and adorable nature. He will truly enchant you; come meet him and find out for yourself!

My name is Cliffy and I am a neutered male, orange tab and white. Appears to be short hair mixed, about 12+ years old. I was dropped of at a home and fed for 2 years by a tenant. When the tenant moved, she did not take me with her, and I was brought to a shelter, where they informed the people, that I would be put down due to Renal Kidney Failure. Nice people took me to their vet where I was treated with special meds and food and now my Renal Kidney failure is 100% under control. I also got all my dental work done. You would not even know I had that kidney problem if I did not need a pill and special food.
I had been adopted out to an elderly gentleman who said he wanted a cat, and knew of my Kidney problem, but he had a cat who doesn't like other cats. Now I'm looking for a new home.
Cliffy is adorable and lovable. He seems to get along with dogs, but it questionable if he gets along with other cats.
I need to find a house for him, where he will be wanted and loved. He starves to be petted. He will rub his head against your legs in the morning, if you try to ignore him. He will bat at your hands if you stop petting him. Cliffy really needs a home.

Angel is a 6 month old female gray tabby. At two months of age she was found living under the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach. She was rescued by the volunteers of the Animal Welfare Committee, a TNR program dedicated to managing the feral cat population in our New Jersey beach community. Angel was diagnosed with a liver shunt at 4-months of age. She is on a prescriptive diet, requires no medication and is doing fine. The only outward effect of her condition is slowed growth and occasional drooling. She is an affectionate and playful cat and has been raised with other cats, dogs and children.
She is a favorite in her foster home, but needs to find a forever family who can provide compassion and veterinary care if/as needed. It is important that she remain an indoor cat.
We have rescued Angel from a life on the boardwalk, eating out of amusement park garbage cans. She surely would not have survived. Please help by providing a loving home to this awesome cat.
Please contact Lisa at lfish731@yahoo.com with any questions you may have regarding Angel.

Kennebec Valley Humane Society in Augusta, Maine:
Fozzy, who was known as Sorrow when he entered our care (because the admitting staff member didn't think he would live), has been through a lot in the past two months. A nice man brought him in, he was a stray cat, and was concerned because his tail had been "ripped off". The Dr. and myself were getting ready to start surgery on the dogs for the day, and a staff member asked her to take a look at him. Upon first look, Dr. Heidi Brzezowski said it appeared as though the cat was a female with a prolapsed uterus. Through all of the pain he must have been feeling, this cat was bright and as friendly as could be. Once he was under gas anesthesia, the Dr. took a closer exam to find that it was actually his testicles that were swollen, infected, and surrounded with necrotic skin. His tail was missing as well, but did not have much for wounds. His penis was very swollen and inflamed. He was covered in pus and urine, with urine scalding down his hocks. Of course, we will never know for certain what happened to him, but the Dr. found evidence - scarring at the base of his testes, as is seen in embedded collars - that seems like someone tried to band his testicles and tail with rubber elastics. He was cleaned up, neutered, and unblocked. A catheter was placed and remained for a few days. As he was recovering from surgery, we got to know him but we were cautious as we didn't know his personality and if anything was masked by pain. Come to find out, he is the sweetest, most agreeable cat we have seen in a very long time. Nothing fazes him - he loves to rub against and play with dogs and cats, and wants nothing more than cuddles and belly rubs from every human that looks his way. After the catheter was removed, Dr. was worried about him becoming blocked again. I took him on as a foster, as I also work at a day practice and am informed about how to take care of intense needs with patients. I expressed his bladder twice a day for a few weeks time, and he showed no signs of a recurring blockage. He was then placed on two medicines that work together to try and help the bladder express. One medicine pushes the bladder, so to speak, and the other keeps the bladder sphincter open to allow urine to pass through. We stopped the sphincter-opening medicine about three weeks ago, and unfortunately he is still having urinary incontinence. He does know how to use the litterbox, is consistent with bowel movements, and will pee small amounts too ... but at all times, he is leaking urine.
Fozzy Bear needs a special home, one that can properly care for and accommodate his needs, i.e. carpeting would not be best! He loves everyone, and has no issues cohabiting with other pets.

Pretty Princess survived a terrible auto accident in mid-June which dislocated her hip, fractured her pelvis, caused bladder damage, and it also broke her tail in 3 places.  Since that night when I found her huddled up against the side of my flood damaged home, she has been in the care of a Vet Hospital located in Chehalis, Washington.  The Vet refers to her as the “wonder kitty”.  She has been able to gain total control of her bowel movements and is now sporting a bobbed tail.  I also had a surgeon put her hip back in place, but she has not been able to regain total control of her bladder. Her bladder does not leak and just simply needs to be expressed. Pretty Princess needs a loving home where a skilled individual can check and express her bladder as needed.  The Vet Hospital usually expresses it every 1-2 days depending on the size of it, however my research indicates that this should be done every 8 hours or so.  She is an adorable 2 year old spayed, short haired tabby with the sweetest disposition who likes other cats and has been exposed to many dogs during her past 5 months stay at the Vet Hospital.

I have been visiting her every day and my vet bill is now over $3,500 which I’m taking out a loan to pay for.  I just recently signed her over to the Centralia Chehalis Vet Hospital and they have stated that if they cannot find her a special needs home by the 24th of this month that she will be euthanized.  I’ve attached a picture to show just how beautiful and cute she is.  Pretty Princess runs around, plays, has a healthy appetite, but she just needs skilled assistance urinating.

Please let me know if Special Needs Pets can assist with locating a home for this young, vibrant kitty who is like a child to me.   Heather Loose   360.970.2886  Heather Loose <looseh@wcb.com>

PS Pretty Princess’ Vet Office has kindly extended the deadline to find her a home to December 4th .

I have a special needs kitten. As I watch Winston sitting on my lap, I think the perfect home would be a child in a wheelchair that wants a lap car. He is the most content little kitten I have ever seen. He is very affectionate and has the face of an old man. Winston has a spine deformity, so his belly hangs low. He is about 2-1/5 months old and uses a jellyroll pan for a litter box. I believe he doesn't hear too well because I can walk up to him while he sleeps. Winston can run, but I doubt that he will ever be able to jump as other cats do.

The kitty we rescued -Bunny- is in Burbank at the Cat Hotel now and it seems she does not have CH. She has a neurological deformity or when whe was young had trauma to the head. She is going to a neurologist to have a full evaluation. She functions fine, walks, jumps, eats, drinks, cleans herself but uses pee pads. The vet feels with her sensory the kitty litter sends unstable signals so she does not like the feel.
She is in a safe place for now (Cat Hotel) but needs to be in a quiet foster home or perm home. She is not adjusting well. I had her here at my home for 5 days before the transfer and she was wonderful and so sweet. She enjoyed laying in my lap and having her head rubbed and kissed. I have been crying for this sweet creature hoping that somebody would take her into their home. We are taking care of all her medical needs, shots, spay on this end.
If you know of anybody or have the facility where she can live happily ever after please pass this on or let me know if you can accomodate her.
She deserves a chance and I dont know what to do. Please can you help or no somebody who can help?
I attached a few pics of her. The woman who took her says she definitely needs to be in a home.
If you have questions please email me or if you would like to meet her. (But she is scared to death where she is so her real sweetness is not shining like she was at my home for 5 days) I so wish I could keep her, it's tearing me apart, please somebody help..............shakeykittycat@gmail.com

Spike is an exceptionally sweet Manx (tailless) kitten who needs to wear diapers and receive regular cleanings, because he is incontinent. Aside from this, he is perfectly house-friendly. Spike's foster family rescued him from death row at a county shelter, but cannot keep him. We are desperate for any alternative to putting him to sleep. We would be willing to personally transport him anywhere in the western U.S. He is currently located in San Clemente, California.

Candide was found outside of an apartment complex, likely abandoned by his owners. He is very friendly and loving and is a complete lap cat! He’s been neutered, dewormed and brought up to date with his vaccines. While at the vet, they found a heart murmur, which likely means that he has heart disease. A more thorough exam and medication will likely be necessary. He is very healthy and active right now, but a heart condition will likely mean frequent exams and medication. I already have two cats, and cannot afford another, otherwise I would keep this special, loving boy!

My daughter is a PhD student currently living in NY who is doing a lot of traveling & has had housing issues because of her cat. She just feels totally unable to care for him at this point. He (Maxfield) has been her cat since she was very young & we have taken very good care of him and he is much loved, but when I sold my house a couple of years ago I was unable to keep him in my apartment (which is still the case), which has also been an issue she feels can't deal with anymore because of lack of funds for housing - she needs to be able to take the cheapest and safest she can find and she often compromises because of cat restrictions. Additionally, her lack of time or someone to care for him when she is away, as I previously mentioned. Are yo or do you know someone who is interested in caring for an older cat and probably as the only animal, as he seems to be very fearful of other animals & some people these days? Please let me know if you know of someone, we are so afraid that if we bring him to a shelter they will euthanize him.
Maxfield is 13 years old, has had regular vet visits and is neutered.
Thank you, Amy Campbell 518.339.5321

I have an older cat (about 10 years old) who is deaf.
She is wonderfully affectionate with people but totally aggressive to other cats. She needs to be an only cat.
Her owner died and I have been fostering her but I have a 13 year old cat. It isn’t working out and my cat is getting very stressed.  I need to keep them separate which isn’t good for either cat.
April is a grey and white tabby. She loves being petted and brushed. She desperately needs a home.
I am in Jersey City, NJ. pllace@earthlink.net (201)798-1946 Thank you, Laura

Please Give Smokey A Home
Smokey is just about everything you could want in a cat—spunky, curious, mischievous, energetic, so friendly that even “dog people” love him. He’s a small (9 lbs.) dilute calico male—mostly gray and white with a touch of orange on his face and right hind leg, neutered, up-to-date on all his indoor-cat shots, negative for both FeLV and FIV. He was born feral. My parents took him in in 1999, when he was less than a year old, and gave him a loving home until they died. Smokey has spent his entire life around other cats and happily introduces himself to new people and animals. (Many a more standoffish feline has scratched his pink nose.) With his playfulness and lithe physique, you’d never know he was over 10 years old. We never succeeded in breaking him of the habit of giving love bites, but he’s affectionate and never breaks skin.
In early 2006, Smokey developed persistent diarrhea. A real trooper, he tries to make it to the litter box—especially if you reward him with treats—but he doesn’t always reach it on time. Two years ago, when my mother got sick, I took Smokey to the vet, where he spent a couple weeks trying a variety of treatments. When Smokey didn't respond to anything, even steroids, the vet thought he probably had intestinal lymphoma, but counseled me not to have him tested for lymphoma unless I planned to do chemo. I never had Smokey tested for lymphoma because my mother was dying, and I had my hands full making sure she got the best medical and palliative care. Two years since his veterinary workover, Smokey shows no signs of declining health. He's still energetic and has a large appetite. His chronic diarrhea has remained relatively stable since early 2006. Occasionally, he cries out and seems to cramp up, but these bouts of gut pain are momentary, and he goes back to scampering about and enjoying his feline life.
Smokey still lives in my mother’s house 30 minutes north of Baltimore. For the last two years, I’ve been taking care of him and two other cats while working on the house and living there part-time. I just found someone interested in renting the house—without cats—and I’d love to take Smokey home to NYC with me, but I share an apartment with someone who is allergic. Won’t you please give Smokey a forever home? Please email me at lisamont1 at mac dot com, or call me at 646-289-1655.

At 9 pounds, Eddie is small for a Maine Coon, but has the luxuriant long coat. He is an adult male, neutered, and current on his shots. He was rescued from an alley in Phoenix, and still startles easily. He is an indoor-only cat. He is very passive, and gets along well with other non-aggressive cats. He was rescued from an alley in Phoenix, and still startles easily. He is litterbox trained, but will urinate elsewhere in reaction to stress.
He is Diabetic, and needs both special diet ( Royal Canin brand "Diabetic DS" chow or equivalent) and insulin shots twice a day.
He needs and deserves focused attention in a quiet home with few or no other cats. He is not appreciative of prolonged contact (like being held ), but when you have won his trust he will respond to your caress with a robust purr as a sign of his affection.
Eddie is located in Northern Arizona, near the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. We are willing to deliver to the right home in the greater Arizona-Utah-New Mexico area.

Hello I have a special need's cat, she was found along the hwy. and her nose was crusted all the way to her eyes. she was almost dead. with love care and med's she came through. She always has one eye you have to put med's in and about every two months she needs to be treated for congestion. I would like to find someone who would love her and care for her.I  have 5 dogs and 9 cats of my own and expenses are great with them. She is about 2 and is a orange tabby, altered, FeLV and FIV negative. Terry neniokaz@cox.net   in Indiana

I am privileged to have had my Diva for over 4 years. She has feline herpes. I have depression and some physical ailments. Somehow it seems that Diva is tuned into my depression. She will not let me stay in bed all day. She will not let me stay in a dark room all day. She has even tried opening the blinds but a lack of thumbs has stopped her. I can't lock myself in my bedroom because she has learned how to turn and open the latch. It is uncanny how she hones in on what I seem to need. When I am up and about and functioning she practically dances around the house.
My problem is that I live on a fixed income. My physical ailments have gotten greater and taking care of her has become very difficult for me. Diva has Feline Herpes. While she only requires 500-1000mg of L-Lysine daily she has become used to certain rituals that we've shared together. She loves to be brushed. She's a girl who loves how she feels after a bath. She is an only cat because of her disease she cannot be with other cats. She is spoiled (as she should be). She would need this attention. I know that if take her to a shelter she would be put to sleep. My heart couldn't survive that. She is a special cat. I have been blessed to have her. I would keep her forever if I didn't feel that because of my situation she is suffering. My inability to interact with her as I used to has caused her to be depressed.

Our names are Clairese and Cassandra.  We were born with eye infections and can see, but there are some scars.  We are currently getting eye drops and hopefully this will only be temporary.  Our eye Dr. is recommending we have l-lysine everyday in our food.  If our  herpes virus  stays in remission forever  we will not require any meds.  The doctor just is not sure, but the meds control the outbreak. We  are  16 weeks old, spayed, tested, and vaccinated.  We are very playful and affectionate.  We can be adopted together or separate.   We live in Florida and our foster mommy can be reached through Gulf Shore Animal League @jjackson153@tampabay.rr.com      941-747-6850
